Saddles from Brooks England and Selle Montegrappa Italy

A bicycle saddle is important. Different cyclists prioritise different features. Many prefer a wider saddle for an upright, relaxed riding position. Others always prefer a narrower saddle. The cyclist’s weight and the width of their hips also affect which type of saddle feels comfortable.

Selle Montegrappa Saddles:
Made in Italy, Selle Montegrappa’s saddles are affordable, comfortable, stylish, and do not disappoint. They are comfortable from the first pedal stroke and easier to maintain. Carriers, baskets and crates to Pilen Bikes

Starting in 2025, Pilen will offer a wider selection of baskets and carriers from Swedish manufacturer AtranVelo. This expanded range gives you even more freedom to configure your Pilen bicycle to match your personal preferences and everyday needs. With more options available, it becomes easier to adapt your bike to how you plan to use it – improving both versatility and functionality.

AtranVelo, based in Falkenberg, Sweden, designs and manufactures high-quality bike accessories for the global cycling market. Their product range includes front and rear carriers, kickstands, baskets, crates and bags – and their components are used by many well-known bicycle brands. AtranVelo is especially recognised for its patented AVS system.

The AtranVelo System (AVS) is a quick-release mounting system for bicycle accessories. Baskets, crates and bags with AVS fittings are modular and fully compatible with front and rear carriers equipped with the AVS interface. Accessories click into place and are released with a simple press. In 2018, AtranVelo was awarded the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for the AVS system.

Rear carriers – with or without AVS

The standard rear carriers on Pilen Lyx, GT, GTV, and EL1 are solid and fully functional, but not AVS-compatible. However, the rear carrier on the EL1 can be upgraded with a smart adapter – AtranVelo Newrack Uni AVS X-Wide Extra – which makes it AVS-compatible, allowing baskets and bags with AVS fittings to be securely clicked into place.

Pilen Ida, GT, and GTV can be equipped with the AtranVelo Tour Lite AVS rear carrier, which is compatible with all AtranVelo’s AVS accessories.

Baskets and Front Carriers without AVS

Pilen’s baskets, including the Pilen Standard and Pilen Småland, are fixed directly to the bicycle and do not feature the AVS quick-release system. The same applies to AtranVelo’s front carriers Cargo Jumbo Basket and Cargo Jumbo, which are not AVS-compatible. The Brooks Hoxton basket is a beautifully crafted aluminium basket with a wooden base, mounted with a KLICKfix handlebar bracket. It fits all Pilen bicycle models. The The Nitto Carrier M-18 Front Carrier is a piece of Japanese craftsmanship and fits all Pilen’s models.

AtranVelo Front Base AVS and AtranVelo Cargo Lite AVS

The front carriers AtranVelo Front Base AVS and AtranVelo Cargo Lite AVS can be factory-mounted on the Pilen Ida, Pilen Lyx, and Pilen GT. Both carriers are compatible with all of AtranVelo’s AVS accessories.

AtranVelo Hybrid AM AVS

The front carrier AtranVelo Hybrid AM AVS can be factory-mounted on the Pilen GTV, Pilen EL1, and Pilen Grus. It features adjustable legs and attaches at the fork crown and at the dropout or lowrider mounts. The Hybrid AM AVS is compatible with all of AtranVelo’s AVS accessories.

AtranVelo AVS-compatible Baskets and Crates

Pilen’s current selection of AVS-compatible baskets from AtranVelo includes the AtranVelo Bring M AVS, AtranVelo Epic Smart AVS, AtranVelo Picnic AVS (grey and brown), and the AtranVelo Epic Multi AVS (silver. If you’re interested in a different AtranVelo basket than the ones Pilen offers as factory-installed options, you can choose to have an AVS-compatible carrier mounted without a basket and obtain your preferred basket, bag, or crate separately. AtranVelo’s products are available on the market and sold by bicycle retailers and online shops.

AtranVelo Tour Lite AVS – A rear carrier compatible with AVS accessories

With the AtranVelo Tour Lite AVS rear carrier, you can mount an AVS basket behind the saddle. If you wish, you can equip the bike with two baskets.

What makes a Pilen a rare and beautiful breed?

Electric Motor Shimano Steps E-6100 mid drive with 60Nm torque. Japanese Shimano is known as one of the world’s most renowned bicycle companies with an extreme quality control. The crank arms are mounted directly on the electric motor’s gear shaft. Crank arms with quality bearings allow for easy cycling even if the electric motor is disabled. The low position of the engine in the frame gives the bike nice driving characteristics.
Battery Shimano BT-6010 capacity 418Wh (36V, 11.6Ah) placerad on the frame in front of driver. The battery’s central placement gives the bike good balance and driving experience.

Custom Colours, Your Choice – We Build!

From May to August 2024, we are simplifying and improving the process for painting the bike components. The option for single colour will be removed as more choices become available.

We have invested a lot of time and effort into programming the bicycle configurator for Pilen Lyx, Pilen GT, and Pilen EL1, where you can design your bike. The bicycle configurator has been running since 10th June, and we continue to fine-tune its functionality. In the configurator, you can make the following selections and see how the bike will look. You can choose:

All frame colours.
All colours for mudguards plus Matte Polished Stainless Steel.
All colours for chain guards plus Matte Polished Stainless Steel.
All colours for the rear carrier or no carrier (Lyx).
Various colours for faux leather saddles and various colours for leather saddles.

You can download an image of your design. The image is saved to your computer or mobile phone. You can download as many design images as you like.
You can copy a web link that, when opened in a browser, directs to the configurator and recreates the selections you made. You can create as many web links as you like.

For Pilen Lyx

You choose the colour of the frame and fork, the colour of the mudguards, the colour of the rear carrier, and the colour of the chain guard. If you want the same colour for all parts, previously called single colour, you can have that. If you want the frame and fork in one colour, the mudguards in a second colour, the rear carrier in a third colour, and the chain guard in a fourth colour, you can have that too. Black mudguards, a black rear carrier, and a black chain guard are still available at no extra cost. The custom choices for mudguards, rear carriers, and chain guards have an additional cost of 150 SEK per choice, totaling 450 SEK if you want to customize the appearance of all three. You choose – we build.

For Pilen GT and Pilen GTV

The colour options for the Pilen GT and GTV include painting the frame and fork plus the mudguards. The chain guard is rotating and is not painted. The wire-model rear carrier is also not painted. The mudguards on the Pilen GT are typically matte polished raw steel. Choosing mudguards in a different colour from the frame gives you the option to have two colours on your bike. Painted mudguards cost 200 SEK.

The Pilen GT comes standard with a rotating chain guard mounted on the front chainring. You can choose to have the more protective chain guard from the Pilen Lyx installed—in either a colour of your choice or in matte polished stainless steel—for an additional 300 SEK. The wire-model rear carrier is never painted. You can opt to remove the rear carrier if, for example, you plan to install a child seat or prefer a more minimalist, sporty look for the bike. You choose – we build.

Difference Between GT and GTV

Please note that the Pilen GTV does not have a bicycle configurator. This is because the Pilen GT is essentially identical to the Pilen GTV, with the difference being that the GTV has 11 gears and hydraulic disc brakes.

For Pilen EL1

The colour options for the Pilen EL1 include painting the frame and fork, mudguards, and chain guard. The rear carrier is integrated with the frame and shares the frame’s colour. The standard colour for the mudguards and chain guard on the Pilen EL1 is Black RAL 9005. Choosing mudguards and a chain guard in a different colour from the frame gives you the option to have three colours on your bike. Mudguards in a different colour from Black RAL 9005 cost 200 SEK. A chain guard in a different colour from Black RAL 9005 also costs 200 SEK.

The meaning of Pilen’s slogan “You can have it your way” applies to options and paintwork. Read about the colours available for the bikes. As far as is practically, logistically, and cost-effectively possible, we want to offer the creation of unique bikes.

Pilen’s models and gents/ladies come in various Standard Colours based on our forecast of expected demand for a model with that specific colour. Painting of frames, forks, and parts is done on a rolling schedule where a standard colour is painted in one day at East Coast Industrial Coatings in Västervik.

The table further down the page shows which Standard Colours the models are available in with a normal delivery time of 1-2 weeks, i.e. bikes we can build with painted parts we have in stock. It also shows which colours are Plus Colours with longer delivery times (but no additional cost).

Exclusive Colour: profile colour or custom chosen colour can be quoted

Pilen can also paint one or more bikes in any desired colour – we call this Exclusive Colour – if we receive the name and RAL colour of the paint. This is done, for example, when Pilen produces Company Bikes where the customer wants their own profile colour. Painting in Exclusive Colours incurs an additional cost which is quoted to the customer upon request – after we have checked the availability of the colour with East Coast Industrial Coatings in Västervik, Sweden, and possibly with Axalta. The cost is always quoted and includes a fixed setup cost and a cost per bike. Note: the customer must specify the RAL colour for the Exclusive Colour. An RGB code or web colour code is not sufficient.

Normal colour scheme Pilen Lyx

The normal colour scheme for Lyx means that the frame and fork are painted in the chosen colour. Chainguard, mudguards, and carrier are painted in Black RAL 9005.

Normal colour scheme Pilen GT and Pilen GTV

The normal colour scheme for GT and GTV means that the frame and fork are painted in the chosen colour. The mudguards are matte-polished bare stainless steel. The rotating chainguard and wire model carrier are not painted.

The normal colour scheme for EL1 means that the frame, carrier, and fork are painted in the chosen colour. Chainguard, mudguards, and carrier are painted in Black RAL 9005.
